Privacy policy
The short version
Groupy stores the information you and your groups put into the app so it can show it to the right people: your name, phone number, email, the groups you belong to and the events posted to them. We don't sell this information, we don't show ads, and we don't share it with anyone except the people in your groups and the services that run the app.
Who we are
Groupy is made by [YOUR NAME OR COMPANY], based in Boise, Idaho, USA. When this policy says "we", it means that person or company. Questions about this policy go to the contact address at the bottom of this page.
What we collect

We don't collect precise device location, your contacts list, advertising identifiers, or analytics about how you use the app.
iPhone permissions
- Contacts. If you allow it, Groupy shows your contacts so you can pick who to invite. The list stays on your phone. Only the number you choose to invite is sent to us.
- Photos. Used only when you choose a profile or group picture. The photo you pick is uploaded; nothing else is.
- Calendar. Used only when you tap "Add to my calendar" or subscribe a group to your Calendar app. Groupy never reads your existing calendar events.
- Notifications. Optional. Used for reminders and updates about your groups.
Who can see what
- Members of a group can see that group's events, its member list, and each member's name and photo. Phone numbers are visible to members of a shared group so people can recognize each other.
- People who are not in a group cannot see it or its events, unless an admin makes the group public. A public group can be found by name inside Groupy and joined by scanning its QR code or link; its events are visible to anyone who joins.
- A group's "Add to my Calendar app" link contains a secret token. Anyone who has the link can read that group's events in their calendar app, so share it only with people who should see them. An admin can reset the link at any time, which stops the old link from working.
- Invite texts are sent from your own Messages app, using your own phone number. Groupy does not send text messages itself.
Services we use
Groupy runs on a small number of providers who process data on our behalf and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes:
- Supabase hosts the database, sign-in and photo storage. Data is stored on servers in the United States.
- Apple provides address suggestions (Apple Maps), push notification delivery, and App Store distribution.
- Expo provides the push notification service that delivers notifications to your phone.
We don't sell personal information and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We would disclose information only if the law required it or to protect the safety of our users.
How long we keep it
Your account and group data are kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, phone number, photos and push token are deleted. Events you posted to a group stay visible to that group with the poster shown as a former member, unless you delete them first. Backups are removed on a rolling basis within 30 days.
Your choices
- See or change your information. Your name, photo and phone number are on your profile in the app.
- Leave a group. Open the group and choose Leave. Its events stop appearing in your calendar.
- Report a problem. Email us about any content or member that breaks the terms of use and we will look into it. Group admins can also remove members themselves.
- Delete your account. Open your profile in the app and choose Delete account, or email us at the address below and we will delete it within 30 days.
- Turn off notifications in iPhone Settings under Groupy.
If you live in a place with specific privacy rights, such as California or the European Union, you can use the contact address below to exercise them. We will not treat you differently for doing so.
Children
Groupy is for adults and teenagers aged 13 and over. Younger children appear in the app only as the subject of events their parents or coaches post, such as a birthday or a game. We don't knowingly create accounts for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Data travels between your phone and our servers over encrypted connections. Access to each group's data is enforced in the database itself, so a member of one group cannot read another group they don't belong to. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
