Terms of use
The short version
Groupy is a shared calendar for groups of people who know each other. Be decent to the people in your groups, only post things you have the right to post, only invite people who would want to hear from you, and don't use the app to harass anyone or break the law. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users: we remove content that breaks these rules and remove the people who post it. Groupy is offered as it is.
Who we are and who can use Groupy
Groupy is made by Groupy Calendar, based in Boise, Idaho, USA ("we"). You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By creating an account or using Groupy you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy, which explains what information we collect and how we use it. If you use Groupy on behalf of a team, club, school or other organization, you confirm you are allowed to do so.
Your account
Your account is tied to your email address, which you confirm with a one-time code when you sign up. Keep that email address current, since it is how you reset your password and how we contact you about your account. Keep your password private; you are responsible for what happens under your account, and you should tell us right away at hello@groupycalendar.com if you think someone else has used it. One person, one account.
What you post
Events, notes, photos and group details you add to Groupy belong to you. By posting them you give us permission to store them and show them to the members of the groups you posted them to, to send notifications about them, and to include them in calendar feeds those members subscribe to; that is what the app is for, and the permission ends when the content or your account is deleted, except for copies that other members have already added to their own calendars. You confirm you have the right to share whatever you post, including photos of other people.
You agree not to post or do anything that:
- harasses, threatens, bullies or demeans another person, or targets someone because of who they are;
- is sexually explicit, or involves or endangers a child;
- is illegal, promotes violence, or infringes someone else's rights, including their copyright or privacy;
- is spam, a scam, or an attempt to collect other members' information;
- impersonates another person, group or organization;
- interferes with the app, probes its security, or tries to access accounts, groups or data you are not entitled to.
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Content that breaks these rules is removed, and people who post it or abuse others are removed from the groups involved and may lose their account.
Invitations
You can invite people by text message, which is sent from your own Messages app, or by email, which we send on your behalf and which carries your name and the group's name. Only invite people you know and who would reasonably want to join. Don't use invitations to send unsolicited messages, and don't invite the same person repeatedly after they have declined. Each invitation carries a one-time code that is valid for 30 days; anyone who enters it joins the group, so share codes and links only with the person they are meant for.
Groups, admins and members
The person who creates a group is its first admin. Admins choose whether the group is private or public, who may invite people, and who may post events: everyone, admins only, or selected members. When posting is restricted, other members can suggest events, which appear only after an admin approves them. Admins can remove members, delete any event in the group, and delete the group itself, which deletes its events for everyone.
Joining a group means the other members can see your name and photo and everything posted to that group. Members cannot see your email address or phone number. A public group can be found by name inside Groupy and joined by anyone who scans its QR code or link, so only make a group public if you are happy for anyone to see its events.
You can leave a group at any time: open it and tap Leave group. Events you already posted stay on that group's calendar. If you were its only admin, the longest-standing remaining member becomes the admin so the group keeps working, and if you were its last member, the group is deleted. The same hand-off happens if the only admin of a group deletes their account.
Reporting, blocking and enforcement
Every event and group in Groupy has a "Report" option, and you can report or block any member from a group's member list. Blocking someone hides their events from you; you can unblock them from your profile. You can also email us at hello@groupycalendar.com with the group name and what you saw. We review reports within 24 hours. When content breaks these terms we remove it, and we may remove the person responsible from the group or suspend or close their account, with or without notice. Reports are kept confidential from the person reported. Group admins can remove members from their groups at any time.
Your own calendar and other apps
When you add an event to your iPhone Calendar or subscribe to a group's calendar feed, that copy lives in your Calendar app and is governed by Apple's terms. A group's subscription link contains a secret token, so treat it like a password: anyone with the link can read that group's events. Address suggestions come from Apple Maps. Invite texts are sent from your own Messages app and carry your phone number.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile in the app ("Delete my account"), or by emailing us from the address on the account. Deleting your account removes your profile and personal details as described in the privacy policy; groups where you were the only member are deleted, and events you posted to other groups stay visible to those groups with your name removed unless you delete them first. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and we may delete accounts that have been inactive for more than two years after emailing you first.
The app itself
Groupy is provided as it is and as available, free of charge, and we will keep improving it. We don't promise it will always be available, error-free or secure, and we may change or discontinue features or the whole service. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for any loss that comes from using the app or relying on it, including a missed event, and our total liability to you for anything arising out of Groupy is limited to US $50. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live, or liability that cannot be limited by law.
Groupy and its name, logo and design are ours; these terms don't give you any rights in them beyond using the app. You may not copy, resell or reverse engineer the app.
Apple
Groupy is distributed through Apple's App Store. These terms are between you and Groupy Calendar, not Apple; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for it or for any claims about it. You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on any US government list of prohibited parties. Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If something goes wrong, email us first and we will try to sort it out. Any dispute that can't be resolved that way will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Ada County, Idaho, unless the law where you live gives you the right to sue elsewhere. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will post the new version here, update the date at the top, and ask you to review and accept the new version in the app before you keep using it. For small changes, such as clearer wording, continuing to use Groupy means you accept the updated terms.
