Invite people

Every group has one link and a matching QR code. Share it any way you like; people who open it join, or ask to join.

The short version

Groups → tap the group → Share link

  1. Open the group

    Go to the Groups tab and tap the group. Under Invite people you'll find the group's QR code, its link (groupycalendar.com/join/…) and its 8-character code. Anyone in the group can share them, in every group.

  2. Share the link

    Tap Share link and pick where it goes: a text, a group chat, an email, AirDrop. Copy puts the link on your clipboard for anything else. Someone standing next to you can point their iPhone Camera at the QR code instead and tap Open in Groupy.

    Don't have the app yet? The link works either way: it shows them how to get Groupy, and opens the group the moment they have it.

  3. Private group? Let people in

    In a public group the link joins people right away. In a private group they ask to join, and the request shows up under Requests at the top of the members list, with a notification to whoever can approve. Tap the check to let someone in, × to decline, or Approve all. Approving adds them at once and they get a notification; declining tells them nothing, and they can ask again.

  4. Reset the link if it gets around

    Admins can tap Reset link under the card (twice, to confirm). The group gets a new link and QR code, and the old ones stop working. Handy when a link was posted somewhere it shouldn't have been.

Common questions

Who can approve requests?

That's the group's Who approves requests to join setting: every member (the default) or admins only. Admins change it in Group settings. Anyone in the group can share the link regardless.

Does the person need the app first?

They'll need Groupy on an iPhone. The link shows them how to get it, and once it's installed the same link opens the group.

How long does the link last?

Until an admin resets it. There's no expiry and no limit on how many people use it.

Can I invite someone by phone number or email?

Not any more: the link replaces the old text and email invites. Send it in a text or an email yourself; the share sheet offers both.

How do I remove someone from a group?

Admins can open the group, find the person under Members, tap the trash icon and then Remove?.
